A long gestating rumour has finally come to pass, Disney Quest will close in 2017.
In what was originally meant to be a large chain of Disney themed amusement centres that never came to be, Disney Quest opened on June 19th 1998 as part of a massive expansion to the Downtown Disney area in Orlando.
It features virtual versions of Disney attractions as well as new attractions based on Disney properties alongside many classic arcade games.
As part of the retheme of Downtown Disney to Disney Springs, Disney Quest is no longer in keeping with the look of the retheme while also no longer being overly relevant in this day and age,
So after what will be just over 19 years in operation, Disney Quest will close on July 3rd.
Following in the footsteps of Disney Quest, will be The NBA Experience.
Here is Disney’s description of the replacement
“The NBA Experience at Walt Disney World Resort will be a one-of-a-kind basketball-themed experience featuring hands-on activities that put guests of all ages right in the middle of NBA game action. There will be immersive NBA video productions and numerous interactive experiences, as well as a restaurant and a retail store.”
So in keeping with Disney Springs, which has very much become a highly themed Retail and Eating destination, NBA Experience will feature all this and more.
This isn’t the NBA’s first attempt at creating this kind of experience, the first being at Disney’s competitors up the road at Universal Studios, with NBA City on the resort’s City Walk, which close in August 2015 and was replaced with NBC Sports Grill and Brew
