More Onsite Resorts to come?

During yesterday’s Forth Quarter earnings call, Bob Iger hinted at more hotels on property are to come at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

Disneyland are in much need of more resorts on site, currently only having three, Paradise Pier, The Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian. It is currently unclear whether Mr Iger was talking about the already announced four diamond rate hotel that will begin construction in 2018 and open in 2021, the rumoured DVC expansion or something. That would all be great but for me the thing the Anaheim based park is missing is a Value resort, some of the likes of The All Star Resorts, Pop Century and Art of Animation in Orlando, that attract so many families to stay on property.

The opposite can probably be said about the Floridian in some ways, they have a wide range of properties from value, through the moderates up to the deluxe and plenty of DVC properties, but …. and this is a big but, occupancy has been high and putting a strain on what they have.

Again only rumours but DVC expansions the moderate resorts, including Caribbean Beach Resort and Coronado Springs, as well at a second tower at The Contemporary are possible

Again for me they are missing a trick still though, three of the theme parks have hotels on their doorstep, yet one doesn’t. Yes I still feel like Hollywood Studios needs a hotel closer to the park gates. In the next few years this park will likely become the 2nd busiest on property with the Toy Story and Star Wars expansion. It would be nice to be able to , in the same sense that you can at Magic Kingdom,Epcot and Animal Kingdom, leave the park at be at your hotel in a few short minutes.

I have the feeling that these hotel expansions might be some way off considering the already announced hotel at Disneyland is still 5 years away, but it will be interesting to see what the future holds.
